a5c7b9f00b The second season of Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex begins with Section 9 being called back to work after a hostage situation of concern to the Ruling Party renders the Police useless. The entire team returns to the front lines: Kusanagi, Batoh, Togusa, Ishikawa, Saito, Paz &amp; Borma, with four of the original Tachikomas restored after the firefight of Episode 26. The hostage situation announced the rising of a new terrorist cell, which takes much after another one in the headlines of today&#39;s papers. The Individual Eleven, whose members are neither individuals, or total up to eleven are a new threat to Public Security. How does a specialized public security group face an enemy more faceless than the &quot;laughing man&quot; during a time of political unrest? Among the broad changes from the first show involve the new ruling party, headed by the new Prime Minister Kabayuki after the prior ousting in GITS: SAC, the Japanese Residents caught in the middle of the affairs and paying the taxes for jobs they&#39;re going to lose in a time of recession, and the downtrodden &quot;invited&quot; Asian Immigrants of the Second Vietnamese War who were brought to Japana half-hearted humanitarian act from the government who was really just seeking cheap labor. And just who is the man called &quot;Gohda&quot;, a mysterious new &#39;supervisor&#39; (don&#39;t worry, Aramaki still runs the group) who appears to be calling the shots for Section 9 during certain missions? He calls out ordersif he was in charge of the group, yet has no apparent loyalty or respect to the government, military or Section 9. The futuristic adventures of a female cyborg counter intelligence agent and her support team. Although the plots are really clever and at times thought provoking, I agree with another poster who said it was dumbed down. The heroine went around in a black leather jacket and lingerie. She spent a lot of time taking her clothes off in the movie, but at least there the reason was for her to use some built-in cloaking ability. Here, everyone has a cloaking ability regardless of the amount of clothes they are wearing. They&#39;ve also added a bunch of battle robots that sound like cutesy little Japanese schoolgirls, and at the end of the episode, you get to watch them talk to each other about some inane topic. It was really too much for me. I quit after the first DVD (with only 4 episodes). I outgrew the Laura Croft drooling, horny adolescent stage a long time ago. Stick with the GITS movies or the Anime if you&#39;re over 21. One of the best new series around (not just anime), Stand Alone Complex follows the investigations of Section 9they attempt to stop futuristic terrorism. Helping Section 9 Chief Aramaki are the child-like Tachikoma robots and a team with expertise in hacking the virtual world called the &#39;Internet&#39; to locate criminals, led by Major Motoko Kusanagi.<br/><br/>Though all the characters from the Ghost in the Shell movie are here, this film has absolutely nothing to do with the feature, instead establishing itselfa well-written and directed anime in its own right. There are also some creative decisions that seem to be aimed at making Stand Alone Complex more mainstream (for example, Motoko no longer has to be undressed to become invisible). The addition of the Tachikoma (from the original manga) may annoy some Ghost in the Shell purists at first, but despite their &#39;cute&#39; sounding nature, the Tachikoma are ultimately the most emotional and touching characters of the series.<br/><br/>Roughly half the episodes are &#39;Stand Alone&#39;, in that they basically follow the &#39;case-of-the-week&#39; format, and the other half deal with the &#39;Laughing Man&#39;, a mysterious vigilante-type hacker who seems determined to rid the world of corruption.<br/><br/>Since the glory days of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, all slowly aging extremely gracefully, most of the good anime has come from movies, with TV series being left by the wayside. It&#39;s therefore refreshing to see a well-budgeted TV series that mixes the best of CSI and the Matrix, and actually being fun to watch, with the occasional cliff-hanger ending that leaves you wanting more!<br/><br/>10/10
